Five easy steps to starting a career with Rockmybaby®
Input your contact details. You will receive an email with an active link to confirm your email address, along with an invitation to create a brief personal profile outlining your experience and philosophy of care – what makes you, you?
You will need to complete/provide:
Babysitting
Once you are an approved Rockmybaby® candidate, you can accept any babysitting bookings in your region via SMS or email. On acceptance of a booking, babysitters are expected to contact the family within 24 hours to introduce themselves.
Babysitting bookings are created by the family via our website and detail the location, time, and number, and ages of children. Bookings are then released to our network of approved babysitters in that region and are picked up by babysitters on a first-in, first-served basis. There is a minimum of three hours, and a maximum of four children per booking. The family pays the babysitter directly on completion of the booking the current regional hourly rate, unless otherwise stated. View babysitting rates. Travel allowance is not included unless stated in the booking.
A babysitter is advised to consider the travel involved prior to accepting a booking. Babysitting roles occur in locations such as the family home, hotels, holiday homes, events or corporate/business locations. In some circumstances, for instance, in the event of a corporate booking, Rockmybaby® Head office will pay you directly, as the company is invoiced by us.
Private Nanny
Families with primary aged children, or families that have pre-schoolers that choose not to participate in the Rockmybaby® home-based programme, are classified as seeking the services of a private nanny. Hourly nanny rates vary based on experience and range from minimum wage and above. Nanny rates are sometimes stated in the nanny job listing, or are otherwise, to be negotiated. As a nanny, the contract of employment is between you and the family, and you are either an employee of the family, or act as a private contractor to them. Your individual employment agreement and job description is negotiated with the family.
Differences between a private nanny and a home-based nanny is:
Nanny Home-based Care (pre-school children)
Home-based Educator
OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation)
A candidate can be an OSCAR Educator in their own home or in the family's home – home-based and in the community environment.
OSCAR Programmes are based on family needs and requirements for care – tailored specifically for the children by the care provider. OSCAR providers can work after school, or in the holidays, designing and running their own programme based on individual skill sets.
Rockmybaby® seeks candidates who are specialists in fields of music, tuition, life skills and sport coaching either formally or informally trained. OSCAR services can offer school collections (or from another location), and then provide tuition. Providers can offer short term or regular bookings to families, choosing their own working days and times - choices to suit their lifestyle and their own family obligations.
Live-in Nanny/Au Pair
A live-in nanny is the term used for a New Zealander working in a live-in nanny capacity, whereas an au pair is a foreign person, often young, who seeks a childcare and cultural exchange, for up to a year. Both roles need to meet the minimum wage or above and are subject to tax, board, and lodging deductions. The family on-pay a sum of money to the live-in nanny/au pair ‘for the pocket’. In both cases, the nanny/au pair lives with the family, with a separate bedroom and separate/shared bathroom provided by the family. Each role offers a different experience, and ages and number of children can vary. As per nannies above, live-in nannies/au pairs may be employed as a ‘private’ live-in nanny or au pair or be employed by a family participating in the Rockmybaby® home-based programme. The family may negotiate rate of pay ‘for the pocket’ to be paid to the live-in nanny /au pair, or there will be a pre-determined financial offer.
