Frequently Asked Questions - Babysitting

  • Once your booking fee is paid, your request is sent to available babysitters in your area. Most bookings are picked up within minutes to a few hours. If it’s not accepted, we’ll re-release it to increase visibility.

While we do our best to fill every booking, we can't guarantee availability. Feel free to contact us if you have any concerns!

  • Yes, you can! When making your booking, you have the option to request a specific babysitter — including someone you’ve used before. If that babysitter is unavailable, your request will automatically be released to our wider network to help ensure the booking is filled.

  • Yes, we do! You can either book an overnight babysitter directly online or submit a nanny listing if you're looking for more extended or ongoing overnight care.

  • Your child’s safety is our top priority. All Rockmybaby® babysitters go through a thorough recruitment and vetting process before they’re approved to accept bookings.

We also welcome and value feedback from families, which helps us maintain the highest standards across our babysitting team.

  • For safety reasons, we recommend a maximum ratio of 1 babysitter to 4 children. However, this can vary depending on the age, needs of the children, and whether a parent is onsite.

Feel free to contact one of our consultants to discuss your specific situation — we’re here to help make sure you have the right level of care in place.

  • Yes, babysitters can transport children if needed - just make sure to include this in your booking request, specifying that a full driver’s licence and a legal, roadworthy vehicle are required.

If transport is involved, you’ll need to reimburse the babysitter for petrol. This can be added at the end of the booking and included in your final invoice.

For bookings in remote areas (like holiday homes), offering a travel allowance helps attract candidates. You can mention this in the “special requests” section when making your booking.

  • Once you pay the booking fee, your request is released to our pool of babysitters in your area. If no one is immediately available, we actively promote your booking through third-party marketing channels online and directly contact available babysitters.

When a babysitter accepts your booking, they will call you the day before the booking, and you will also receive a confirmation email.

If your booking is a few days away and no one has accepted yet, don’t worry - we are continuing to work hard to find a match. This includes re-releasing you're booking and personally texting suitable babysitters. If we are unable to find a babysitter, you will be contacted.

  • Our babysitting rates vary depending on the location, time of the booking and type of care required. Our standard rate starts from $30 per hour, with different rates applying in some areas and for certain bookings. A 3-hour minimum applies to babysitting bookings. You can view our current rates on our babysitting fees page.

  • Absolutely. We regularly provide babysitters for weddings, birthdays, conferences, holidays and other special events. Care can take place at your accommodation, an event venue or another agreed location. If you're travelling to New Zealand, we recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for busy weekends and popular holiday periods.

Frequently Asked Questions - Nanny

  • Nanny rates vary depending on the nanny's experience, qualifications, responsibilities, location and the hours required. Rather than setting one standard rate, we can help you understand what is appropriate for your particular role and provide suitable nanny options.

  • This depends on your requirements and what nannies are currently available in your area. The more flexible you can be with days, hours and start dates, the more options we may have. If you need someone urgently, let us know and we'll work with you to find available candidates for temporary or ongoing care.

  • A Flexi Nanny is ideal if you need flexible or temporary childcare, such as a few days a week, school holidays, maternity leave cover or a short-term arrangement. Rockmybaby helps match you with a suitable nanny and manages the administration around the booking.
A Full Placement is designed for families looking for a permanent or long-term nanny. We handle the search and recruitment process, introduce suitable candidates for you to choose from and support you through the placement process.

  • Yes. Nannies aren't only for permanent positions. We can help families looking for temporary cover while their usual nanny is away, during school holidays, while waiting for a permanent nanny to start, or during a busy period at home or work. Availability will depend on the dates, hours and location.

  • There is no one-size-fits-all schedule. Families may need a nanny for a few hours a day, several days a week or full-time hours. Tell us what you need and we'll look at suitable options based on your family's routine and the availability of our nanny network.

  • Finding the right nanny can take time, particularly if you need someone with specific experience or availability. Rockmybaby can help match your family with suitable nannies based on your location, hours, children and requirements.

  • A nanny provides care in your home and can offer one-on-one or personalised care around your family's schedule. Daycare is centre-based care with set operating hours and routines. A nanny can also make school or kindy runs and help maintain your child's routine at home.

  • Yes. A nanny can be a great option for school holiday care, particularly for families who need care at home or don't want to rely on holiday programmes. Availability varies, so it's best to enquire early.
